AWAY GROUND INFORMATION
(courtesy of the Football Ground Guide - visit here - you can buy great books of the ground guide) Alternatively choose your destination from the dropdown menu to see a google earth aerial view showing transport links and hotels etc.
Blackpool
Directions
Leave the M6 at Junction 32. Follow the M55 into the outskirts of Blackpool and continue straight along this road until you see the ground on your right. The ground is roughly located about half way between the Pleasure Beach and the Tower and is about a 1/4 of a mile inland from the south shore. Large pay and display car parks are located just across the road from the ground (£1). Damian Feeney adds; 'It's worth bearing in mind that the car parking does increase during the holiday season to £3.20 for the required period. It runs from the Spring Bank Holiday until the end of the Illuminations. The canny can find on street parking instead.' Matthew Stimpson a visiting Halifax Town fan informs me; 'Please note that unlike most towns and cities in England the pay and display car parks near to the Blackpool ground still charge after 6pm. Some visiting fans on my visit assumed that they would be free after 6pm and ended up with a parking ticket'.
Pubs
Nigel Richardson a visiting Hull City fan recommends the 'No 1 Bar, which is a Working Mens Club, that is adjacent to the away supporters entrance to the ground on Bloomfield Road and was very welcoming to away fans'. There are plenty of pubs in Blackpool town centre to choose from. Mike Latham recommends the Dunes pub on Lytham Road (Airport End). In his words; 'it serves the best pint of Boddies in the world!'. Steve Lumb adds; 'Another good pub is the Wetherspoons pub called the Auctioneer on Lytham Road, near Blackpool South Station. Its about 10 minutes walk to the ground and serves cheap beer and brilliant grub.'
Steve Gardner a visiting Gillingham fan informs me; 'A good family pub close to the ground is the Waterloo in Waterloo Road - genuinely family friendly except in the games area. Clean, comfortable and friendly; Sky TV on large screens and reasonable, inexpensive food'.
By Train
The closest railway station to the ground is Blackpool South and is around a ten minute walk away. However fewer trains stop at this station with most calling at Blackpool North. Blackpool North station is around two miles away and therefore you may wish to jump in a cab to the ground.
Doncaster Rovers
How To Get There And Where To Park From the A1(M) join M18 Eastbound at Junction 35 (signposted Hull) or from the M1 and join the M18 Eastbound at Junction 32.
Once on the M18, leave at Junction 3 and take the A6182 towards Doncaster (the stadium is well signposted from Junction 3 and is about one and a half miles away). You will pass a retail park on your left and then at the next island (which has the Lakeside Pub visible behind it) turn left onto White Rose Way. The Lakeside Shopping Centre is now on your right (the stadium is located directly behind the shopping centre). At the next island turn right onto the industrial estate and after passing the Tesco distribution centre on your right, turn right at the bottom of the road and the stadium is further down on your left. There are just 1,000 car parking spaces at the stadium, which will mean that for the bigger games, parking will be at a premium. There are 60 parking spaces reserved for disabled fans, which must be booked prior to matchday. The stadium management are also giving preference for parking to those cars carrying more than one passenger, but apparently this won't be enforced. The cost of parking at the stadium is £5. A number of firms on the nearby industrial park, offer matchday parking at around £3-£4 per vehicle. If you happen to arrive a couple of hours before kick off then there is also some free street parking to be had in this area.
There is no coach parking available at the stadium. Visiting supporters' coaches drop fans off at the stadium and park off site.
By Train Doncaster Station is just under two miles away so you are probably best taking a taxi to the ground. If you do have time on your hands and you fancy the long walk (around 25-30 minutes) then as you come out of the station turn right and then keep straight on this road (the A 6182 Trafford Way) and you will eventually reach the stadium complex on your left.
Colin Barrett informs me; 'The bus service has been improved for matchdays. From around two hours before kick off there is a dedicated shuttle service from the Doncaster Interchange bus station, which is adjacent the train station and under the Frenchgate Shopping Centre. This is Route 75X and runs every 10 minutes direct to the Stadium. It leaves Stand C6 and the journey takes less than 10 minutes depending on traffic. The bus stops in a lay-by at the Ground close to the Ticket Office and after the match leaves for Doncaster Interchange from the same place. Cost is presently £1.10 each way'.
What Is It Like For Visiting Supporters? Away fans are located in the North Stand at one end of the stadium, where around 3,344 fans can be accommodated. Clubs with a smaller following will be allocated around a third to two thirds of that number meaning that on those occasions the end is shared with home supporters. The view of the playing action, leg room, and facilities in this stand are all good, although fans are set well back from the pitch as there is a substantial tarmac looking track which surrounds it.
The concourses are a good size and there are a number of televisions on view to keep supporters entertained. Pies (including the Chicken Balti pie), pasties and vegetarian 'Pizza Pods are supplied by Shire Foods and cost £2.30 each. Burgers and Hot Dogs are also available as well as alcohol.
I found the stadium to be more atmospheric than the Belle Vue ground which was largely open to the elements. This is a bit unusual as most clubs that move to new grounds usually complain that the atmosphere suffers in the new arena, however at the Keepmoat this is not the case. The stewarding was relaxed on my visit and no problems were experienced. The pitch also looked in top condition, although you could still see the lines of a previous rugby league game. The club have their own troupe of cheerleaders called the Vikettes, who provide entertainment before the game and half time. Mark Chatterton a visiting Southend United supporter adds; 'It poured down with rain at our last match and it was noticeable around the stadium that those people sitting in the front rows of the stands, got particularly wet'.
Please note that cash is not accepted at the turnstiles, they are ticket only. Tickets can be purchased from the South Stand ticket office. Top Of Page Where To Drink? The Stadium has its own Sports bar on the outside of the West Stand. Away fans are admitted to the bar (unless there is an objection to this for some games by the local Police), however the bar soon fills up prior to the match and so can be difficult to get in. David Rose adds; 'There is a bar in the bowling alley next to the Vue Cinema, which is situated on the other side of the lake'. Otherwise there is not much near to the stadium (the nearest pub that I could find the Lakeside, Beefeater outlet near Stadium Way is for home fans only), so it may be best to stop for a drink on the way. The club used to serve alcohol to away fans inside the stadium but don't anymore, which seems a bit odd.
Coventry City - The Ricoh Arena
Directions
Leave the M6 at Junction 3. Take the A444 towards the city centre and after one mile you will reach the stadium on your left.
Parking at the stadium is for permit holders only and fans are being encouraged to use the Park & Ride facilities plus a number of satellite car parks in operation on matchdays. There is a good sized retail park located next to the stadium, but I guess restrictions will be put in place on matchdays. In addition a 'residents only' parking scheme has been put in place for all residential streets within a mile of the ground. The Club are utilising a number of car parks within walking distance of the stadium, in such places as factory units and local schools. The cost per car for these official car parks is £5.
Park & Ride Scheme The Cub has a Park & Ride scheme available on matchdays, which cost £7 per car (including return bus travel to the stadium for all the cars occupants). This is located at the Jaguar Research & Development in Whitley Coventry and is located primarily for supporters coming up from the South and going to the stadium via the M1 junction 17 and then the A45 to Coventry. Continue on the A45 towards Coventry and at the large roundabout that is the junction with the A46 continue on the A45. At the next roundabout follow the signs for the 'Jaguar/Racquet Centre' to take you to the parking facility. The Club are asking fans to pre-book their Park & Ride space by calling 0247-623-6986.
Dominic Byrne a visiting QPR supporter adds; 'I took the A444 from Junction 3 of the M6. Shortly before the roundabout that is right next to the stadium, there is a slip road on the left. There was parking in the slip road and in the light industrial estate by Makro. I chose the latter and parked easily on the street. This resulted in a quick getaway after the game'.
Pubs
There are a few pubs within walking distance of the stadium, but with the stadium being new it is unclear yet as to which will become the favourite amongst away fans. Kevin Newey advises me of the following local pubs in the area within walking distance of the stadium; 'If you walk up Winding House Lane (left off the main traffic island by the stadium) and turn left at the traffic lights into Wheelwright Lane, there is a pub called The Hub around 50 yards down on the left. If you walk up Burbages Lane (a right turn off Winding House Lane) and turn right when you get to the T-Junction, there is a pub call ‘The Bull & Anchor’ which is a Hungry Horse pub, up on the left. If you are looking for food then the Simply Scrumptious sandwich bar is worth a mention as it does a wide range of freshly filled sandwiches and baguettes and also hot Shire Pies & Pasties (including Chicken Balti Pie) at very reasonable prices. To find it again go up to the roundabout and turn left into Winding House Lane and then left again into Hen Lane. The sandwich bar is down by the junction with Holbrook Lane'.
Robert Nunn a visiting Reading fan adds; 'Myself and a friend parked in Longford, about a five minute walk away from the stadium, and found a host of pubs situated along Longford Road. Whilst most looked quite partisan and only had Sky Blue shirts in, the "JK English Pub" was most welcoming. This Indian/Pub had a pub feel (pool table, jukebox, etc) but was also an Indian restaurant. On Saturday's it also does a £5 all you can eat lunchtime buffet'. To find this pub, coming away from the North Stand at the Ricoh, follow the towpath over the canal for about 400 yards passing the Tesco Extra on your right. When you come on to Longford Road, head right, towards Coventry City Centre and the pub is around 200 yards on your right hand side.
Jamie informs me; 'The Black Horse Pub, in-between Longford and Exhall has been attracting a fair amount of away supporters for most games. If you go to the top of Longford Road and around the roundabout towards Exhall, its on the right and normally has a burger van outside'.
By Train
Coventry train station is about three and half miles away from the stadium and really is too far to walk. There is a shuttle bus that operates from the bus station to the Tesco/Arena stadium complex which departs every 15 minutes and costs £3 return (for adults), otherwise jump in a taxi.
Lori Kilpatrick adds; 'there is a bus stop directly outside the train station, from which most passing buses go to the Pool Meadow Bus Station. On checking that the bus indeed goes to the Bus Station ask for a "match day ticket" which will cost you £3 and will cover all journeys on that day in Coventry (note no change is given on Coventry buses so have the exact cash ready). Get off at Pool Meadow and look for the stand from which the Football Special Service operates from (there will be probably be a number of other fans in the vicinity). The service number is 101 and runs every 10 minutes from two hours prior to kick off and then returns every five minutes, for one hour after the game has ended. Buses depart after the match from outside the Coventry Evening Telegraph North Stand'.
We have experienced lengthy delays after parking at the stadium to get out of the car park. The bus arrangement has not worked at some matches and taxis had to be used
READING - THE MADJESKI STADIUM
- There is a frequent train service from Paddington to/from Reading . Journey time approx. 25 mins. There is a No 79 'Football Special' bus, which leaves just down from the station. Turn right outside the main station entrance and the buses are about 50 yards down the road on the opposite side - there is normally one waiting. It takes about fifteen minutes to get to the ground.
- London Wolves normally meet at the Hope Tap (Wetherspoons) which is about a quarter of a mile from the Station (cross the road, to the lights, turn right into Friar St). Favoured for food and cheaper beer) or the Three Guineas next to the Railway Station.
- Parking: There is a car park at the ground and at the nearby speedway/greyhound track, both of which cost £5 They hold about 2,500 cars between them. However if you do not arrive in good time before the game you may find that they are already full. and it can take over an hour to get out. For big fixtures on Saturday's, the nearby car park belonging to Hewlett Packard (turn right at the first roundabout on the relief road) has also been opened up. It holds around 900 cars and costs £5 per car to park there'. 'Don't park in the nearby Business Park, as you may find yourself with a parking ticket if you do, or even clamped. The Club, in the interests of crowd safety, now prevent traffic from leaving the car parks, until ten minutes after the final whistle'. You can also park at the Post House Hotel on Basingstoke Road. It costs £3 per car and although a 10-15 minute walk away from the ground, you may find it easier to get away from, than some of the other car parks, after the game'.
If you want street parking, don't bear left onto the relief road as you leave Junction 11, continue straight on and you will pass a few roads on your right, park in one of these and walk to the ground (10-12 minutes). I managed to get away with no problems after the game. Visit http://www.footballgroundguide.co.uk/ for more info on the stadium parking etc
Bristol City
Directions
Leave the M5 at Junction 18, travel along the Portway (A4) following signs for the Bristol Airport/Taunton (A38). Over the swing bridge (Brunel Way), branching left into Winterstoke Road, and you will see the ground on your left.
Parking at the ground is for permit holders only, although there is another alternative car park on Ashton Vale Road (using the above directions it is a right hand turn off Winterstoke Road, opposite the ground), run by You Can Park Ltd. It is two minutes walk from the ground, has 400 spaces and cost £3.50. Spaces can be pre booked by calling 0871 200 3261. Otherwise it is a case of finding some street parking.
Pubs
Alex Webber recommends the Pumphouse and the Nova Scotia for away supporters by the waterfront, but adds that pubs nearer to the ground such as the Hen & Chicken and the BS3 Bar should be given a wide berth. The Robins pub, which is situated a few minutes walk from the away end and was a favourite for away fans has now alas become a pub for 'home supporters' only. Other home pubs that away fans should also avoid are the Quba Ice bar near to the Hen & Chicken pub, plus the Ship & Castle, near to where the away coaches are being parked up. Please note that alcohol is not available to away fans inside the ground.
By Train
The nearest railway station is Parson Street which is around a ten minute walk away from the ground. However few trains stop at this station so you are more likely to end up at Bristol Temple Meads mainline station instead. This station is at least two miles from the ground and hence too far to walk, so best to jump in a taxi (around £6). Neil Le Milliere a visiting Exeter City supporter adds '"don't try and walk it from the station unless you really have to and then allow at least 3/4s of an hour for the journey". Chris Davis says; 'there are buses which leave from behind the Atyeo Stand at the end of the game which go to the centre of Bristol and Temple Meads Station at a cost of £1. Although predominantly for home fans, away fans could also use them'.
Birmingham City St Andrews
Leave the M6 at Junction 6 and take the A38(M) (known locally as the Aston Expressway) for Birmingham City Centre. Continue past the first turn off (Aston, Waterlinks) and then take the next turn off, for the Inner Ring Road.
Turn left at the island at the top of the slip road and take the Ring Road East, sign posted Coventry/Stratford. Continue along the ring road for two miles, crossing straight across three islands. At the fourth island (there is a large McDonalds on the far left hand corner) turn left towards Small Heath. Birmingham City's ground is about a 1/4 of a mile up this road on your left. The ground is well sign posted on the Inner Ring Road.
There is a small car park directly outside the entrance to the away end, but availability of space for cars is determined by how many away coaches are expected as they park in the same car park, which may mean for certain games that there is no space available for cars at all. There is though plenty of street parking off the left hand side of the ring road. Either around the small park at the third island you cross or along the road next to and behind the BP garage before the fourth island. Bear in mind that if you arrive after 1.30pm these areas are likely to be already full. There are some local schools and businesses that offer parking facilities for around £4-£5.
By Train
The nearest station is Bordesley, which is about a ten minute walk away from the ground, but is only served by trains from Birmingham Snow Hill and the service is not very frequent on Saturdays. If you arrive at New Street Station in the city centre, either walk to Snow Hill (ten minutes) take a taxi (about £5) or embark on the 20 minute walk to the ground.
As you come onto the concourse of New St station, bear to the left of the escalators and through the glass doors. Walk down towards to the end of the Station Service Road. Cross to the other side of the road at the bottom (where there is a new shopping centre) turn right and follow the purple pedestrian signs for Digbeth Coach Station. These will see you descending a flight of stairs at the side of the shopping centre on your left and then going down a road with the Markets on your right and a large church on your left. Follow this road around to the right and then take the next left to take you up to the main dual carriage way. Turn right along the dual carriageway, passing Digbeth Coach Station on your right and the impressive looking Crown Pub on your left. Cross over the dual carriageway to the Crown pub side of the road and continue walking away from the City Centre. You will come to a fork in the road where you want to bear left going underneath a railway bridge. Passing the Clements Arms on your left just continue straight down this road, crossing a large roundabout (with a McDonalds over on one corner). The entrance to the away section is further up the road on your left.
Otherwise you can take the following buses from the city centre. No's 96, 97, 58 & 60. The 97 & 98 can be found in Carrs Lane in the city centre. As you come off the platform and onto the station concourse, go straight up the escalators in front of you. At the top the escalators turn left and keep in that direction so that you leave the shopping centre by going down a long ramp. Turn right at the bottom the ramp into New Street and continue to the bottom. Then turn left into the High St and just past Marks & Spencers on the right is Carrs Lane. Turn into Carrs Lane and the bus stops are down on the left by the church.
Pubs
Most of the pubs near to the ground can be quite intimidating for away supporters and are not recommended. However there is the Brighton pub on the Coventry Road which does tolerate away fans in small numbers. This pub is about a ten minute walk away, going past Woolworths & Morrisons on your left.
Either drink in the city centre or otherwise there is the Anchor real ale pub, behind Digbeth Coach station.
If you coming by train, or decide to drink in the city centre beforehand, then if you like your real ale, then you can't do much better than visit the Wellington Pub on Bennetts Hill. With 15 real ales on tap, including 12 guest ales, this is somewhat of a mecca for real ale drinkers. In 2005 alone, the pub served over 2,600 different beers! To find this pub, then assuming that you are coming into New Street Station by train, then as you come onto the passenger concourse at the station, so straight up the escalators in front of you. At the top of the escalators turn left and then proceed towards the 'Foot Locker' outlet. Turn left at this store and then right and proceed down the ramp past McDonalds. At the bottom of the ramp turn left into New Street and walk along the pedestrian area. Bennetts Hill is the fourth turning on the right (there is a Barclays Bank is on the corner). The Wellington pub is about two thirds of the way up Bennetts Hill on the right hand side. There is also a handy Wetherspoons outlet called the Briar Rose (which is no smoking) on Bennetts Hill as well. The Wellington does not provide food, but has no objections to you bringing in your own. There are a couple of taxi ranks nearby that you can use if you wish to get you to the ground.
Burnley - Turf Moor
- Directions from Manchester Road station: Leave the station and cross the main road towards the cinema. The ground should be clearly visible in the distance straight ahead. Turn left and progress down "Centenary Way" an unmissable dual carriageway (A682) going downhill towards the ground. A few minutes walk down this road will bring you to a roundabout where you should turn right under the canal bridge into Yorkshire Street (A671). Continue down this road and you will reach Turf Moor on your left, with the away stand the first to be reached.

Car Parking in Wolverhampton
There are many car parks in Wolverhampton, although few offer a “quick get away”. The streets nearest to Molineux prohibit parking except with a resident’s permit, and the traffic wardens have a field day most match days. Nearest street parking is therefore about 10 minutes away, to the West of West Park.
